Villa Bathroom Upgrade #2
After seeing guests appreciate the bathroom barn door upgrades from last year, Steve crafted up a concept for redoing the bathroom interiors for our next storm-season closure.
After multiple stays as guests at Great Expectations and now owning and managing the property for 5 years, we recognized not only the dated nature of the bathrooms, but also how the drawers and cabinets really don’t work for 7-10 day rental guests.
We found a local woodworker that helped tweak the design and scheduled the work. The tile countertops were reserved at a St. Thomas tile reseller and we sourced the wood from MSI and hauled it over in the mini truck.
Sinks, fixtures, plumbing parts, paint, and much more came next.
Concept Vanity Build
To avoiding costly (time & money) mistakes, a single initial vanity for our owners’ apartment was built and installed to learn any unique problems and adjustments that could improve things.
Demolition and 6+1 more Vanities
Concept proven and minor adjustments made, production began on the rest of the vanities in August with delivery and install happening in September and October.
Old friend and professional painter Mikey Nice flew down from Vermont and we spent a week demoing the other 7 bathrooms including vanities, mirrors, lights, electrical, and plumbing. Much sweat was expressed. Many truckloads of debris was driven to the transfer station. Many island lessons were learned.
Painting, Installation, and finally Beautiful New Bathrooms
It was a lot of demo & prep work, but we upgrade the electrical and plumbing, cleaned and patched the walls, and even painted the mirror frames. The vanity project was - not-shockingly much more work than planned, but the results speak for themselves - beautiful hardwood open air bathroom vanities with very cool Bahia Blue counters and nice vessel sinks.
Chalk up another successful improvement at Great Expectations!
