July 4th celebrations from yesteryear to today in the Virgin Islands

Ronnie Lockhart of St Thomas has wonderful historical pictures of the Virgin Islands and he posted this one recently on his Facebook page. Note the marching band. Looks pretty formal but I bet there were some Caribbean steel band music as well!
More recent parades have taken a more colorful (and raucous) tone. St John's 4th of July parade is one of the concluding activities of a month long Carnival season. It is wonderfully colorful and fun as can be attested by the photos below captured by our friends at the
